Poultry Grower Releases Compliance Assistance     2008 Workshops Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier ll) Reporting   Workshops for the 2008 Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier ΙΙ) Reporting are being held in Kent, New Castle and Sussex Counties.  Workshops will be held as follows: Kent County Tuesday, December 9 at Del. Annual TRI Training The annual TRI training for TRI reporting will be held at the Fire School in Dover on May 6, 2008.  Agenda and other details to follow. 2006 Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reports due July 2, 2007 [Posted 6/26/07] To learn more about this reporting, go to TRI Reporting or contact John Parker with the EPCRA Reporting Program at (302) 739-9405. 2007 Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier II) Reports due March 1, 2008 [Posted 2/14/2008] Under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), facilities that use or store hazardous chemicals for which Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) must be prepared or maintained, may be required to submit annual Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier II) reports if those substances were present on site at or above specified threshold amounts.  These reports must be submitted on or before March 1 each yearcovering chemicals used or stored during the previous calendar year.  Reporting facilities are urged to use our new on-line reporting system.  To learn more, visit our compliance assistance page for Hazardous Chemical Inventory reporting   New Outreach Materials Available for Educators [Posted 1/29/07] The State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) and your Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) have started a Community Outreach Program for hazardous materials.  We have the copyrights and are making available an interactive program on CD-ROM called “Fire Pal.”  The basic message it provides is, “Stop, Leave it alone, Get a Grown-up!”  In this program, Ron the Fireman guides children through all the rooms of a house, pointing out hazardous materials and where they might be located.  Each area contains a brief interactive quiz for children to take giving them the opportunity to point out the hidden dangers themselves.  Children can visit the back yard, the park and a local gas station where Ron points out all the hidden safety hazards.  The program also contains several excellent lesson plans that can be used by parents and teachers to educate children about the dangers of hazardous materials. Additionally, we have a Kids Shelter in Place video entitled “How to Protect Yourself during a Chemical Emergency after School.”  The video is less that seven minutes long and is a dramatization of what kids need to do to shelter-in-place during a chemical tanker truck accident.  The family dog, Bobo, narrates the video which also covers the contents of a shelter-in-place kit.  For more information, please visit our Educational/Outreach Materials page.

Proposed Changes to TRI Reporting Requirements [Posted 02/02/2006] The EPA has proposed changes to the TRI reporting requirements. Delaware's response to these changes can be viewed, "DNREC Response to EPA Proposed Changes in TRI Reporting Requirements".

800 Phone Number for Reporting Emergency Releases to the State Emergency Response Commission [Posted 06/17/05] Per Delaware Code, notifications to the Delaware SERC are fulfilled by notifying the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).  The number for notifying DNREC is 1-800-662-8802.  Previously, this number was only used for people calling outside of the State of Delaware. Now, this number is used by everyone.

Phosmet no longer an EHS [Posted 12/20/04] Effective December 27, 2004, the EPA issued a final rule to delete Phosmet from the list of Extremely Hazardous Substances (EHS).  Phosmet is still considered a hazardous chemical under the EPCRA section 311 and 312 requirements.
